Pregnancy Tests…Who Do You Trust?
I participated in a Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for First Response. I received product samples as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
When I was trying to get pregnant with both of my boys, I went through test after test. Because of my fertility issues, I tried many different brands. There were ones found at the dollar stores, cheap tests found at most major retailers and more expensive tests. Some had pink lines, some had blue lines. Honestly, I always went back to First Response because I was a sucker for the commercial that said it could show the results 5 days before a missed period.
I never knew what the differences between them all were. I wasn’t exactly sure how they worked. Then I started doing my research. Little did I know, they picked up different amounts of the pregnancy hormone. The cheaper tests needed a much higher concentration of the hormone in your urine to tell you were pregnant. So if I was peeing on 10 of the cheap tests during the time I could have peed on just 1 First Response….I was wasting money!
This time around I wasn’t trying to conceive, but we had a slip up 1 time(yes ladies and gents, it truly can happen 1 time. I was over a week away from my ovulation date, so I should have been ok. But my body obviously had different plans that month and decided to ovulate early!). Even after that slip up, I started spotting and thought, “Phew, here’s my period. It’s about a week early, but that can happen.”.
Then the spotting stopped after 2 days. Uh oh…was that “implantation bleeding”? (Implantation bleeding can happen when the fertilized egg burrows into the uterus.) I ran to the store as soon as I had this thought and bought a pack of First Response Early Result Pregnancy Tests. I was still 5 days before my missed period, so I really didn’t want to mistake anything.
I noticed a few things about First Response. They have gotten more sensitive over the years and can now detect the pregnancy hormone up to 6 days before a missed period. The tip is also 50% wider, the handle is longer and curved to fit better in your hand. This is great news for me and my poor aim!
It can detect all relevant forms of urinary hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) throughout pregnancy which means you can take it any time of the day! It’s easy to read results show up in just 3 minutes and 2 pink lines means you are pregnant!! Even if one line is fainter than the other, it’s still positive. Don’t let the darkness of the line fool you!
I got home from the store and took the test…my results were light, but immediate. I was PREGNANT! I sat in shock for a while, thinking of how to tell my husband. I took a few days to let it sink in and to officially miss my period before I told him. It came to quite a shock to him too, but we are both excited to be expecting the newest member to our family!
